Sometimes the best ideas take time to become reality. Custom Shop Engineer John McGuire says he first began toying with the idea of a V with Les Paul Custom appointments in late 2000, but it wasn't until early 2002 that he was able finish the job: "I love Vs and I love the looks of the Les Paul Custom…I thought, 'Why not try putting them together?' I used the '58 V as a template simply because I like the thicker body with the "string through body" bridge set up. We also used one piece of mahogany for the body, instead of the usual two pieces that a '58 V has." The result is a striking guitar that drew as much attention as anything at this year's pre-NAMM Custom Shop party. And guess who just had to have one of the very first ones?Yep, Mr. Flying V himself, Rudolf Schenker.
Few things raised more eyebrows at the 2002 Custom Shop pre-NAMM party than this guitar--a Flying V with Les Paul Custom appointments. This elegant rocker features all the upscale appointments of its Les Paul counterpart (including multi-ply binding and gold hardware), and will be offered in a Limited Edition of 40.
