This guitar  had a little square plastic jack socket reinforcement plate added, otherwise it looks original.   The available finishes were : Alpin White, Natural Mahogany, Black, Tobacco Sunburst.         Courtesy : Steve.

1976 Flying V
 

This is typically Alpine white Gibson finish. This guitar has metallicknob position markers, a feature that seems to have disappeared from later guitars. The PU surroundings were added so as the Schaller metallic knobs and the Lead/Rhythm ring. 1978 Flying V
 

This guitar was refinished white and the knobs are Fender type. It's interesting to note that there are 2 Gibson logos, one is the standard screen painted on the tuss rod cover while more unusual, the second is a decal on the headstock itself. I have a 1980 V with that same similarity which sould appear (shortly) in the gallery, it's candy apple red. 1980 Flying V
 

I found this Sunburst Flying V in Glasgow, having never seen such a finish on a V before. It is completely  stock except for the PU surroundings.

Typical of the 1980 - 1982 productions, note the tuners : this more rounded type has replaced the 1970's tulipe ones. I suspect the bridge pickup to have been replaced since 80 models are usually completely black.       Courtesy : Steve/Jeff

This color is very unusual. I was told that it is the original color in which it was produced. It looks like a silverburst without the black edging.                 Courtesy : Jeff

1981 Flying V
 

1981 Flying V carrying 2 logos, the usual plus a horizontal one on the top of the headstock. The finish is a very unusual metallic red.

1982 Custom Shop V. No indication as to the "original" status of the black stripe though it seems to have been added over the white base.

1983 Flying V
 

Originally white with a black headstock, this guitar was refinished. It used to have 2 gibson logos (refer to 1978 V above). The PU surroundings were added. PU's had chrome covers (bridge PU was replaced by a DiMarzio PAF Pro). Original Knobs replaced by Fender type. S/N # 80593529         Courtesy : Takuya Okamoto
